AAP launches Ludhiana slums clean up drive

AAPLudhiana: Aam Aadmi Party AAP volunteers today took another big step in its drive to make a “Clean, Green and Healthy – Ludhiana” by clearing up a slum area on Pakhowal Road.

Jamna Nagar also known as Ambedkar colony along the canal on Pakhowal Road has a big slum area which due to the unhygienic conditions prevailing there has become a big health hazard. While the area is already reeling from the shocking deaths of people at nearby Prakash Nagar due to water contamination with solid waste entering the water pipelines, this colony too could have been the next victim of unhealthy living conditions.

The Clean and Green – Ludhiana Team of Aam Aadmi Party Volunteers took up the initiative of providing healthy living conditions to the neglected area. They were helped by the Municipal Corporation which provided sweepers who along with Party Volunteers gathered all the waste and garbage in the colony. With the assistance of the employees of A2Z Garbage Disposal company, this mountainous garbage dump was then removed, cleaning the entire colony.

Further taking this spirit of citizen voluntary participation ahead, the Aam Aadmi Party volunteers planted trees and earmarked a part of the slum which they will be using for providing education to slum children. The “Each One-Teach One” project of this AAP youth team started 2 months ago has already seen tremendous result with slum children vying with each other to reach the informal “school” run by these young boys and girls every evening in the slum areas. A small song and dance performance by these “school students” was much appreciated by their parents and other residents of the colony.

The Aam Aadmi Party volunteers pledged to keep organizing these cleanliness drives till each and every corner of Ludhiana becomes clean and habitable for Ludhianvis. The enthusiastic volunteers could be heard saying “We will ensure that there is no garbage dump or littering  in any corner of Ludhiana and each child in this city receives at least a minimum level of literacy”
