BJP leader Navjot Sidhu ends fast-unto-death in haste

joshi -sidhuAmritsar: Like her husband and former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu,  Chief Parliamentary Secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu today ended her fast-unto-death in haste after Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi convinced her that the tenders of roadwork of another Rs5  crore in her constituency will be floated by Wednesday. Navjot Sidhu had kicked off her indefinite fast here yesterday.

Earlier, Navjot Singh Sishu had announced fast unto death for some developmental projects in Amritsar, but he had decided to cancel it on the assurance of statement to start development shortly, which never followed.

Joshi offered her a glass of juice to mark the end of her fast. Talking to the mediapersons, Navjot Kaur said: “Anil Joshi realised the love for his sister and assured me that the tenders will be floated without any delay.” She also took potshots at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal saying: “Baap de pyaar che kami reh gayee se…..mere bhra ne bina mange oh de ditta jo Badal Sahib ne mang ke vi nahi ditta” (My father could not love me enough…My brother has given me without asking for it even as Badal Sahib could not give me despite making a demand).

She was apparently referring to Badal’s statement in which he said CPS Sidhu was like a daughter to him. She said she was happy that the BJP today stood united and would march ahead together. She thanked the party workers from Gurdaspur, Batala and other areas of the state who came in her support.

Later, Joshi said: “I didn’t like here to sit on fast for just Rs5 crore. There is no dearth of funds and I have told her that the tenders for roadwork in her segment will be floated by Wednesday. It was not such a big issue.”

The government had earlier floated tenders of roadwork worth Rs5 crore in Navjot’s constituency against her demand of Rs10 crore tenders, which prompted her to sit on an indefinite fast.

Earlier before ending her fast, the CPS launched a scathing attack against Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma, blaming him for the problems being faced by the party in the state.
