LUDHIANA: The Assistant Director (TV) at the Centre for Communication and International Linkages, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr Anil Sharma has been selected for the national award for making outstanding efforts in science and technology communication through innovative and traditional methods during the year 2014. The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has selected Dr Sharma for this award, which consists of Rs 1,00,000/- cash, a memento and a citation.
The PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon congratulated Dr Sharma for this achievement.
Dr Chander Mohan, Additional Director Communication, said that Dr Sharma is a Full Bright Awardee, who has been making concerted efforts to equip the farmers as well the public with the farm knowledge. “Plays on judicious use of natural resources, and insect-pest and disease management of various crops were staged in different villages of Punjab under Dr Sharma’s guidance,” he added. Recently,a dissemination capsule developed by him in the form of docu -drama on paddy straw management, prepared by Dr Sharma, was successful in conveying a strong message to the public via social media, he said.
Giving details, Dr B.P. Singh, Head, National Centre for Science Technology and Communication, said that Dr Sharma is the only scientist to have been selected in this category for this award. The award will be bestowed on Dr Sharma during an award giving ceremony, to be organized as a part of National Science Day Celebration on March 2, 2015 in New Delhi, he added.
