Amritsar: The Sarbat Khalsa – a congregation of several hardliner Sikh organisations, passed a resolution declaring Lieutenant General KS Brar (retd), Operation Bluestar commander, and former Director General of Police KPS Gill “tankhaiya” (guilty of religious conduct) and directed them to appear before Akal Takht on November 30.
Unfazed at being declared a “tankhaiya” Gill termed the Sarbat Khalsa organisers as a “bunch of thugs”. Gill said the organisers were “tankhaiyas” themselves as they had done the greatest harm to the Sikh religion and the state.
The Tribune quoted Gill saying, “They are a bunch of thugs. They are tankhaiyas themselves as they have done the greatest harm to Sikhism. These persons were actually the real “anti-Sikh” of all time.”
“The Supreme Court is hearing a petition seeking a ban on ‘sardar’ jokes. I feel these persons are bigger jokes. These persons have no power or authority to make such announcements,” he said.
