Bathinda: Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu today surrendered before the local court and was sent to judicial custody till October 19 in connection with a non-bailable offence under a case registered on September 30, when he along with his protesting supporters had tried to enter the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
Addressing workers in the court complex (on way to the Bathinda jail), Bittu asked them to clear the way for his vehicle and take the agitation in support of the farmers’ cause to all parts of the state. He sought a relief package of Rs 51,000 crore from the Narendra Modi government to bail out debt-ridden farmers. He demanded a compensation of Rs 40,000 per acre for farmers affected by the whitefly attack and Rs 20,000 per family of farm labourers.
The court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Randeep Kumar also sent Mansa DCC president Bikram Mofar to judicial custody till the same date for same offences. Khusbaj Jattana and Bhupinder Gora, also named in the FIR, were also moving with the Congress entourage in the court complex.
