JPJI Correspondent:
Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka is needed to mend his ways for which he is famous for – indulging into brawls, resorting to vendetta and suppressing the democratic agitations of unemployed or underpaid teachers with might.
This, more than two years-old photo brazenly depict the mood of Maluka to personally attacking on an agitating unemployed youth. Although Maluka was neither an MLA nor a Minister when he assaulted an unemployed youth, but, his stature of a former Minister and senior Akali leader did not deter him doing all this.
Having generated several unpleasant controversies in the capacity of Irrigation Minister during Parkash Singh Badal’s regime between 1997 and 2002, Maluka, this time holding sensitive portfolio, Education, seems to be treading on the same path.
He was in the news for resorting to political vendetta and then using might to disperse unemployed teachers, who had sat on Dharna outside his residence.
Maluka should remember that teaching community – regular, adhoc or unemployed, play a significant role in the Punjab politics. Its none else but teaching community, which plays more significant role in influencing the political opinion at the grassroot level.
Instead of resorting to supression Maluka should engage teaching community into dailogue and should try his level best to solve solve their genuine grivenaces. He should not forget that no government could afford to come into clash with the teaching community.
