Pak hockey players may be punished for indecent victory actions

pak-playersBhubneshwar: Pakistan defeated arch rival India in the Champions Trophy semifinal on Saturday but the victory took a backseat after the Pakistani players misbehaved with the crowd at Kalinga Stadium.

Pakistani Coach Shahnaz Sheikh tried hard to keep his players under check but they did not listen to the coach.

Later, during the press conference, Sheikh tried to dodge questions on the incident at first but finally apologized when the media kept raising up the issue.

“I am sorry for what they have done. They are like children, what can I do,” said the Pakistan coach.

The coach then left the press conference along with Pakistan captain Muhammad Imran saying that he would like to answer questions related to the match.

Meanwhile, Champions Trophy tournament director Wiert Doyer probed the matter after the match and said in a statement that “no further action is warranted”.

On Sunday however, Hockey India president Narendra Batra demanded suo moto action from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and an unconditional apology from the Pakistan Hockey Federation over the Pakistani players’ misconduct.
