LUDHIANA: The Directorate of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will be organizing a training course on “Straw Management and Minimum Tillage Machinery” from September 4-6 on the campus. The course will be held in association with the Training Unit of the PAU College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology. The ASIs of Agriculture Department will participate in the course.
Giving details, Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, said that the PAU farm engineers will educate the trainees about the minimum tillage technologies for crop production, and the safe operation of farm machinery. Special emphasis will be laid on cotton and wheat straw management machinery, he added. The experts will focus on the use of happy seeder for direct drilling of wheat in combine harvested paddy fields, paddy straw chopper-cum- spreader for paddy straw incorporation, and rakes and balers for straw collection. Dr Gill told that the trainees will also be imparted hands-on-training in the operation and adjustment of happy seeder and balers.
Meanwhile, another training course on “Mushroom Cultivation” will be jointly conducted by the Directorate of Extension Education and the Department of Microbiology of PAU from September 9 – 13. The farmers and farm women from various parts of the Punjab state will participate in the course, said Dr Gill. The University subject-matter specialists will apprise the trainees of significance and marketing of mushrooms, their seed preparation, and management of insect-pests and diseases, he informed. In addition to highlighting the importance of mushrooms in daily diet, the experts will familiarize the trainees with the mushroom recipes, and the cultivation of various mushroom varieties like dhingri, paddy straw mushroom, milky mushroom, and shitake mushroom, he added.
