PU scholar Sarwar Beg to get Young Scientist Award

Sarwar BegChandigarh: Panjab University (PU) Senior Research Fellow Mr Sarwar Beg has been selected for one of the most prestigious “Ranbaxy-Sun Pharma Science Scholar Award 2015”.

Mr Sarwar Beg is Research Fellow at University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) at PU for his research work entitled, “Systematic Development of Optimized Oral Lipid-Based Nanostructured Delivery Systems of Cardiovascular Drugs employing Quality by Design (QbD) Paradigms”, which he conducted under the joint supervision of Chairman UIPS, Prof Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, and Director, Research Promotion Cell, PU Prof O P Katare. Selection for this award was notified yesterday by Ranbaxy Science Foundation, Gurgaon, through an official email communiqué to Professor Bhoop.

The Ranbaxy-Sun Pharma Science Scholar Award 2015 would be bestowed on Mr Sarwar Beg during the Annual International Symposium of Ranbaxy Science Foundation shortly. This prestigious award would include an engraved plaque, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

A three-tier process was employed for embarking upon the final selection of the candidate from scores of applicants across the country. First, only a couple of candidates were short-listed on the basis their credentials, and on the basis of novelty and applications of their research work conducted for the benefits of human kind for making presentation at Ranbaxy-Sun Pharma R&D Center at Gurgaon, before a 7-member expert panel. Subsequently, after thorough discussions, interactions, and cross-questioning, the candidature of Mr Sarwar Beg was finally selected.

Besides the award, Mr Sarwar has to his credit 25 publications and other young scientist awards like, “Budding ADMET Scientist Award 2013” and “Budding QbD Scientist Award 2014”, “Eudragit Award 2014”, 4 Best Paper Awards, and International Travelship Awards by DST and ICMR for USA and Canada, respectively.
