Amritsar: Under clouds due to Enforcement Directorate investigations pending against him in the Rs 6000 crore inter-continental drug racket, Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia avoided escorting the visiting Prime Minister Narndra Modi during his visit at the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on Monday.
However, Majithia, who holds Public Relations and Revenue portfolios, welcomed Modi as he arrived at the Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport at Rajasansi near here.
This is the first opportunity in the recent years when Majithia avoided escorting the dignitary of this stature in his home turf Amritsar. Needless to say that from the political clout and influence that he holds Bikram Majithia is called as, “Majhe Da Jarnail”.
Punjab Governor, CM Parkash Singh Badal, union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and certain BJP leaders were accompanying the PM when he paid visit to the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh.
However, a press release issued by one of his media advisors stated that Majithia cordially welcomed Narendra Modi at the airport and urged him to pay special attention towards the demands of border areas.
